Once a quality audio or theatre system has been assembled, my experience mandates that the following additional areas be examined and addressed, if optimum performance and full value are to be achieved from the components you have purchased.  Proper implementation of companion products in these additional areas can often ultimately render the greatest value added to a fine system (these items frequently do not follow the dictates of "The Doubling Continuum" discussed in FAQs, typically adding substantial sonic benefits at a fraction of total system expense):

• room acoustic treatments

• ac power distribution

• audio and video cabling

• audio furniture and racks specifically designed for sonic improvement

Room Acoustic Treatments:

All of the above areas are critically important in obtaining the absolute best from your system, but in my expereince, the application of acoustic room treatment is easily the most overlooked and ignored.  In my thirty years of audio involvement, I have never encountered a "good" room, nor a room that could not be dramatically improved with fairly modest expenditures.  Clients are frequently willing to expend substantial sums of money on equipment in their pursuit of audio nirvana, but are routinely quite willing to overlook the room shortcomings, making it is impossible to obtain your full performance.  Rooms, like people, are entirely unique and require an individualized evaluation. MD SYSTEMS works with two of the most notable companies in this field to design and install a total room package  or a simplified approach to tackle the most glaring room weaknesses.  Please visit with our two suppliers in this arena at
www.auralex.com and www.echobusters.com.

AC Distribution:

Much akin to our sound rooms, virtually all ac power supplied to our homes is woefully short of ideal - there are an abundance of companies and products available, however, MD SYSTEMS has narrowed the field to one truly superior organization to fill this need - Shunyata Research from Washington state.  After setting the industry standard with their ac distribution devices, they have successfully embarked on providing a full line of audio cables that also provide marked system improvement.  Please take the opportunity to visit with this organization at

Cabling:

Arguably,  the most "mysterious" and misunderstood area of audio is the arena of cabling.  There are an inordinate amount of cable manufacturers in the audio industry today, but the vast majority of them afford little to no benefit for the dollar spent.  Simply buying typical products produced in bulk from Asian sources may indeed change the sound of your system, but different does not equal better!  There are a small percentage of cable manufacturers that are dedicated professionals employing science, engineering and technology in conjuction with quality build materials to achieve significant results in sonic improvement - in this area, you simply must find a knowledgable and honest audio dealer to assist you with the myriad of choices.  Cabling is the final "polish" to a system - you have to buy the car before you apply the polish (in other words, the electronic and speaker products are the primary acquisition, then appropriately matched cabling can provide the final sonic tuning to your system).  Other than the most expensive products available, virtually all cables have a "sonic signature" (this is related to both the materials used, like copper or silver, and the actual cable build geometry employed).  It is this matching selection process where the experienced dealer will provide the guidance to implement the most appropriate companion cabling products to go with your electronics - mismatching will be counterproductive and will not produce the desired result!

In addition to the fine products offered by Shunyata Research mentioned above, MD SYSTEMS is proud to be associated with Stealth Audio Cables, representing the ultimate in sonics and build quality, achieved through the use of nontraditional exotic materials along with proprietary custom connectors.  Please take the time to visit with this company at

Audio Furniture:

Finally, to complete your system as to both sonic performance and aesthetic presentation, acquiring audio furniture specifically designed to isolate and evacuate vibration or resonance from your system is the ideal.  There are three kinds of resonance - mechanical (generated by a motor or transport mechanism), electrical (from all manner of sources in the equipment's circuitry) and environmental (like a truck driving by or acoustic feedback from the system itself).  All three forms are highly detrimental to best possible performance - the easy solution is acquiring audio furniture that accounts for these resonances while adding aesthetic beauty to your room and system.  Please contact us to discuss the most appropriate products as to the engineering, aesthetics and expenditure most suitable to your individual needs.
